On Friday, October 18, 2019 from 3:30-5:00pm American University will host an event titled, "Supporting the Creative Generation as Arts Managers" featuring TED-talk style presentations and community conversations examining emerging perspectives on arts and cultural education, the role of cultural institutions in society, youth empowerment and civic discourse, and how artists/arts managers play a role. A reception will follow from 5:00-6:00pm.

Today's generation of young people are facing some of the most pressing challenges of our time. For decades researchers have worked to understand their development and growth through arts and culture, as well as educational means, but have struggled in sustaining the impact of such programs. In this talk, hear from educators, nonprofit leaders, and social entrepreneurs showcasing new research interrogating the ways societies support young people and their adult counterparts in the arts towards realizing a vision of a Creative Generation. Based in creativity, culture, education, civic discourse and community development, speakers will discuss new and disruptive ideas towards re-imagining our cultural institutions, funding systems, and current policy contexts to foster dialogue for the future.
