Jeff M. Poulin Appointed as President of the Board of Dancing Classrooms DC
On July 17, 2019, the board of directors of Dancing Classrooms DC (DCDC), an affiliate of the New York CIty-based Dancing Classrooms, nominated and confirmed Jeff M. Poulin as its next president.
As board president, Jeff hopes to lead the organization through a three year strategic planning process, build a stronger relationship with local founders, and more deeply connect the work of DCDC with the arts strategy of DC Public Schools.
A lifelong tap dancer, Jeff has been involved with Dancing Classrooms DC since April 2019. “It is such a pleasure to be involved with such a stellar program in my hometown,” he said. “I have tremendous respect for the Dancing Classrooms model and its work around the US and abroad, and I am especially proud to be leading the passionate board of volunteers towards expanded access to dance education in our nation’s Capitol, and my own backyard!”
Launched in 1994, Dancing Classrooms is an arts education program that uses ballroom dance to develop social skills and enhance academic success for 5th grade students. In 2012, the program expanded to three Washington, D.C. area schools helping children succeed in life by unleashing rapid development of essential social, emotional, and cognitive skills. A distinctively rich, in-school experience, the program engages students in the joy, discipline and teamwork of social dance and creates mutually respectful and effective learning environments.
